 What’s Trending in Home Design   Kitchens Are Moving Past White—Color Is the New Neutral  “White kitchen cabinets had a great run, but we’re seeing a real shift. Homeowners today want more personality and warmth in their  kitchens, and color is becoming the new neutral.”  One of the standout colors in Boardwalk Building Company’s latest project is Cordovan by Sherwin-Williams— a rich neutral with enigmatic violet undertones that adds a sophisticated touch to any space. “We just used Cordovan in a custom kitchen, and it completely transformed the space.  Clove by Sherwin-Williams is cozy like mulled wine. A dark, warm hue that brings depth to a space and invites you to settle in and stay awhile It’s subtle enough to act like a neutral, but it  brings so much more character and emotion than white ever could. It makes the kitchen feel rich and connected to nature.”  As a designer-builder, Michele considers how color interacts with light, flow, and materials—making sure it works both visually and  emotionally. Clove is especially effective in homes with lots of natural light, where it seems to shift slightly throughout the day,  adding depth and life.  “We paired it with a Leathered Fantasy Brown stone, stainless steel and oak flooring to create that layered, lived-in feeling. Homeowners are  drawn to earthy, organic palettes—because they add depth, and character to a space. .”  The overall shift? Design that feels like home, not a showroom. Soft colors, clean woods, and balanced contrasts are redefining  what a “modern kitchen” looks like in 2027.

These are no longer luxuries—they’re becoming everyday essentials for  people who want their homes to support recovery and relaxation.”
